Key Assessment: Facilities Plan
Follow the link below to view the Facilities Plan I developed for Northside High School
Reflection
The facilities plan was a major project that involved the entire school. I wanted to be sensitive to the media specialist as I would be critiquing some of the policies and procedures of the media center but also wanted to make sure the work I did reflected the best practices that could possibly be implemented. I found that many people didn't want to participate in the survey I developed but the ones who did had really great feedback. It was difficult to have a discussion about the results with the media specialist but he took it very well and actually implemented some of the suggestions from my facilities plan.

Task 1: Grant Application & Budget
Reflection
Dollar General is a great company that I have been shopping with for a number of years. I ran across their grant application and decided to use it for this assignment. As with most things today, there are no paper applications to fill out so that as you go through the application you actually are submitting information to Dollar General. A few weeks after I "applied" for the grant application I received an email from Dollar General corporate office stating that they had viewed my grant application and wanted to speak with me further about finishing it.I immediately spoke with my principal and he decided that we should actually look into creating a literacy program and apply for the grant because of Dollar General's interest in the project. I am really excited about it!

Task 2: Media Center Evaluation
Reflection
This task taught me that evaluating a media center is a tough task! I think that many times we become comfortable with the status-quot and neglect to evaluate programs and processes that need to be updated. Mrs. Irwin at Russell really helped me understand that being a media specialist is about being adaptable. We were able to go through each category and determine the best grade. She was surprised to see the expectations of the rubric and had some questions about the validity of some of them. We discussed at length the ways in which we could improve in the areas we rated the media center a one and talked about what to include in the memo to Principal Jo.
